I have been monitoring and complaining about BBC bias, in particular on the EU, climate change and the left of centre of our politics, since the 1980s. I have refused to pay my TV licence on two occasions as I argued that their bias showed they were not honouring their Royal Charter and thus I had no obligation to pay their licence. These stands resulted in two court appearances. On the first I received a conditional discharge and the second a £800 fine. Fortunately my fine was less than the accumulated licence fee I owed! Anyway I now have a licence, as my card is marked, and while Magistrates treat non payment of a TV licence as a strict 'liability offence' non payers will NEVER beat the system.

While I and many others are in no doubt the BBC is bias writing this blog, which I start in January 2009, will not in itself change a thing - if only it had that power! It is of course particularly frustrating when so many 'insiders', on leaving the BBC, admit just how bias the institution is and some like Andrew Marr still even work for it!

This blog will of course remain as a source for reference but in the meantime I need to concentrate on my other project which is to promote The Harrogate Agenda which I helped set up in 2012. Our aim is the reform of our system of governance to give the people a far greater say, when appropriate, on the way we are governed. We have a website and blog here http://harrogateagenda.org.uk/, which sadly doesn't convert into a useable link since I updated my computer, but simply google The Harrogate Agenda and up it comes.

The Harrogate Agenda is I believe the only way we will ultimately tame the BBC because with our six demands we set out very clearly how the will of the people can no longer be ignored and so it would always be possible to hold any institution to account if enough people made a stand.

If anyone wants to get in touch you can contact me off The Harrogate Agenda website.

Finally thank you for your support over the years.

Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-19240905173708892552016-10-05T15:13:00.002+01:002016-10-05T15:13:45.283+01:00#410w - Two more examples of bias based on the BBC's PC agenda.1. White or Black - After the recent abduction and rape of the school girl in Oxford the BBC were happy t report that the suspects were two WHITE males. Now in comparison when was the last time your heard the BBC so clearly state that the suspects to a crime were BLACK?

I'm just asking a very simple question.........

2. Diversity - Jon Holmes has been sacked, after 18 years of working for The Now show on Radio 4, for being white and middle class. A good friend of his, a Jewish woman, who was responsible for helping to set up the BBC's diversity programme told him " I'm so sorry we just wanted to represent everyone fairly. It was never about sacking people who already do the job and simply replacing them to tick a box. This isn't what we meant to happen at all."

Well the BBC, like so many other gutless and PC led organisations, clearly DO have a tick box culture which, and here is the complete irony of the situation, is in itself DISCRIMINATORY.

Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-21337231197608597132016-09-29T10:51:00.001+01:002016-09-29T10:51:08.962+01:00#409w - BBC Brexit bias.A cross-party group of parliamentarians has challenged the Corporation's DG, Lord Hall (what else would he be but a Lord!), to name a single programme that has been enthusiastic about Brexit since the EU referendum on 232rd June. He was unable to do so and has agreed to review the BBC's complaints procedure.

I tell you now, from bitter experience, that the BBC will come up with some measly words about being balanced over time where as anyone who studies BBC bias will know that the BBC has always been pro the EU and wanted us to stay in the EU. Therefore the BBC now feels duty bound, to please the overwhelming pro EU Establishment, by knocking the chances of a safe Brexit.

I believe Brexit can work to our advantage, in the long term, especially if we initially stay in the EEA and negotiate on Freedom of Movement via Article 112 of the EEA agreement.

Finally anyone who seriously thinks staying in the EU was a risk free option need to get out more!
Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-32563459145907476642016-09-25T18:34:00.001+01:002016-09-25T18:39:21.265+01:00#408w - Bias staff at the bias BBC.Have you ever known a BBC broadcaster sacked for bias?

No - me neither!

So Spring Watch co-host Chris Packman gets away with bias because, and wait for this great excuse, he is NOT a regular presenter!!!

So you be the judge of what this apparently part-time presenter said which was that he branded all hunters and shooters as the 'nasty brigade'.

Personally I've never seen anyone less tolerant than the supposed 'Green brigade' but then what do I know as a white middle class male with right of centre views. I'm an endangered species which the BBC does everything in its power to destroy.

The real irony in all this is that most of the BBC management are white middle class males and yes females, paid handsomely from the compulsory licensee tax we all have to pay, who all live comfortable urban lives and couldn't tell the difference between a stoat, mink, ferret or weasel!

Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-19186516871657250762016-09-16T10:57:00.001+01:002016-09-25T18:43:32.310+01:00#407w - It's time David Dimbleby retired. Question Time last night was a classic case of BBC basis.

1. The panel of five contained only one person, in Quentin Letts, who supported Brexit. Balance, and a reflection that the Leavers WON, should have had three Leavers to two Remainers.

2. The audience from Salisbury appeared to be 2 thirds from the Left and only a third from the Right and this in a Conservative seat.

3. Dimbleby allowed Campbell and MacDonald far too much of the time to slug it out over the current issues in the Labour party. At times allowing the rants to go on unchecked.

4. Unusually, entirely due to his increasingly poor chairmanship, he only had time for 3 questions.

Dimbleby in terms of chairing QT is past his Best Before Date.

Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-48800651307239498022016-09-14T09:45:00.006+01:002016-09-14T17:32:44.589+01:00#406w - Those 'Controversial' boundary changes. On the six and 10 o'clock news yesterday the BBC described the boundary changes as 'controversial' but controversial to who I ask?

The changes which as I understand it have been drawn up by the Electoral Commission aim to make all constituencies of equal size (as the chartists first demanded) and reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600.

I doubt the public find these proposals 'controversial' and while some MPs might, especially the ones losing their seats, the left leaning BBC does who of course love to bash the Conservatives at any opportunity. However as I say above these changes have come from the EC and not the government but no mention of that from the BBC is of course all the government's fault.

During the interview with Labour's Tristram Hunt, he was allowed to claim without interruption or follow up question, that these changes were 'unfair' and 'undemocratic' when the truth is that the existing system, as most honest pundits will admit, is heavily skewed in Labour's favour.

The bias in the, still unreformed, BBC knows no bounds.Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-51913359057725190562016-09-09T22:47:00.001+01:002016-09-09T22:47:58.873+01:00#405w - BBC and grammer schools. The BBC once again reverts to type over the PM's decision to allow the creation of new Grammar schools aimed at selecting pupils on intellectual merit.

During the news tonight on BBC 1 at six and 10 the first item dealt with Grammar school issue and contained three vox pops who were all against the idea.

Are the BBC really trying to tell me that for balance they could not have found somebody who stood up for the principles of Grammar schools.

The BBC's DNA contains huge swathes of anti elitist thinking and this from an organisation that is actually elitist to its core.Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-38334900508855171932016-08-28T13:47:00.003+01:002016-08-28T13:47:57.750+01:00# 404w - Today programme alters history to suit its agenda.

The BBC still cannot believe 'they' lost the referendum as is evident from their continuing stories on an increase in racist attacks post Brexit and doom and gloom over our future.

When they do cover the continued problems of the EU they alter history to eradicate any unpleasant truths as covered in this blog post:-

I addition to the above on the evening news last night, on an item covering Theresa May's call for a 'Race Audit', they did not cover one opposing point view with all, around, five vox pox interviewees saying that this country was racist.

1. Racism - The BBC has been full of stories, since we voted to leave the EU, that there has been an increase in racists attacks. This even permeated to the One Show one evening last week where various interviewees claimed to have been the subject of racist abuse. One black youth, who said he had received racist abuse, was asked by the reporter if he knew that was a hate crime and should be reported to the police.

2. Tory leadership contest - One clearly senses that the BBC are keen to find any Tory, who voted Leave, who is upset that their party is going to be lead by a Remainer. This was very clear today on the six o'clock news when the reporter in Harrogate, Yorkshire, sought out Tories who were unhappy with Thersa May. The reporter did try and balance the three or four who said they were unhappy with one man who wasn't that concerned.

Both these are examples, as I put in my title, that show the BBC trying to make the news and not just reporting it.

PS. My other half has just informed me that on the One Show tonight they interviewed a woman in her refuge home who thought she would be unable to vote in the referendum because women in refuge centres don't give out addresses in case their exes track them down and so having no address they cannot vote. Anyway this individual did manage to vote (not quite certain how she managed it but that isn't the point as you shall see) and she was so excited because she now had a stake in the country's future.

Now here is a question - Which way did this woman vote?

Was it remain or leave?

Remain of course if that wasn't practically guaranteed.

Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-43165395769803848842016-06-26T21:30:00.002+01:002016-07-31T18:45:28.602+01:00#402w - BBC back to its old tricks.I haven't posted for some time as I was pleasantly surprised by the credible attempt the BBC made to be balanced during the referendum campaign.

However since the result they have returned to their old bad habits.

Take two examples one specific and the other general.

1. At 6am on Friday on their news bulletin they falsely and dangerously claimed that the pound had collapsed following the result.

2. In the same vein all the vox pops at the time of this entry have contained doom mongers predicting the end of the world as we know it. My belief is that the BBC have deliberately sought out these people who I would suspect would not have been that easy to find.

So I believe BBC bias is now back and I will again record examples on here as and when I can.

Why wasn't this point put to Obama?
However missing from the report was the FACT that Mr Henderson had brought the drugs from a BBC executive producer Alexander Parkin.

I wonder why the bias BBC failed to mention this fact?!

On the back cover of the book it says:-

"Robin Aitken is a former BBC correspondent who spent 25 years at the Corporation. Starting in local radio he worked across a range of BBC radio and television programmes ending his career on the Today programme. He has an intimate understanding of the BBC and brings unique insight into its workings."

I highly recommend that anyone interested in the issue of whether the BBC is bias reads this very easy to read 242 page book.

Robin Aitken hopes that there are some recent signs that some things have improved but to
my mind there is absolutely no doubt, with what I already know and the evidence he presents, that the answer to the question posed in the title of his book is a resounding - NO. Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-30062174026380462372016-03-28T10:48:00.005+01:002016-03-28T10:49:18.098+01:00# 398 -war - Climate Change bias.On Radio 4's Life Scientific programme last week the Environmental Scientist Carolyn Roberts was interviewed about flooding. She was clearly a supporter of climate change and there was no attempt at balance as she repeated the regularly spouted falsehoods that the temperature and sea levels are rising.

Now the BBC argue that one programme on its own may not be balanced but over time balance is achieved by the inclusion of other points of views.

This is a BBC lie.

As I explained in post #359 below when the reporter Quentin Letts took a light hearted swipe at the Met Office in his series of programmes titled "What is the point of ....." it was removed from the BBC I player after a handful of 'environmentalists' complained of the programmes bias.

The BBC is not balanced, even over time, on three key issues - climate change, the EU and a bias towards the socially liberal left of British politics.Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-7766909218260211702016-03-28T10:35:00.001+01:002016-03-28T10:49:00.173+01:00# 397 - war - Local BBC DJ hits the nail on the head.Martin Kelner, who has worked for the BBC Leeds since the mid 80's, was sacked last week, without warning, when he was informed in a casual chat after his show that the station was moving in a different direction and his contract was not going to be renewed.

Being on the inside his views are very interesting and relevant and here a selection of what he said on his blog about BBC management:-

" gutless brainless managers who contribute nothing to what goes on air"

"Local radio is underfunded* and over managed by meddling bosses"

* Personally I would save money by withdrawing the BBC form local radio and leave this area to the commercial stations.

BBC Leeds management are "clueless, spineless, charmless, gutless brainless and pointless"

The BBC should strip away " meddlesome, ineffectual audience-losing management"

He also pointed out how David Holdsworth controller of English Regions earns £166,000 and Pat Loughrey, former BBC director of nations and region,s was paid £300,000 a year until he was ousted in 2009 with a pay off of £866,000. The BBC has since capped redundancy pay at £150,000.

On the other hand Martin Kelner was paid on a free lance basis at £190 for each of his three hour weekend shows. He will be paid until the end of his contract in May but receive no further payoff.

Insiders who leave the BBC nearly always testify to the huge amounts of mismanagement and financial waste at the corporation.Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-21028464525221611882016-03-28T09:46:00.001+01:002016-03-28T09:46:03.714+01:00# 396 - war - Pro EU bias.Although I have not posted for a while it goes without saying that the BBC continues its pro EU bias in a variety of subtle ways often by ending the EU news story with the comment from a 'Remainer' rather than a 'Leaver'.

One individual piece of analysis concerns BBC 2's Newsnight programme which out of 40 editions, between Jan 13th to March 11th, when interviewing on a one to one basis had 12 Remain individuals compared to six Leave. On an overall basis during the same time period the programme clocked up 25 Remain to 14 Leave.

This is called interview bias in favour of the EU.Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-10668895344779015042016-03-06T15:32:00.001+00:002016-03-06T15:32:37.351+00:00# 395 - war - The Liberal delusion.I have nearly a finished a fascinating book called 'The LIBERAL delusion' by John Marsh with the subtitle ' The roots of our current moral crisis.'

In it he points out how our society is being damaged as the 'intellectual socially liberal' elite force through their liberalising agenda on so many aspects of our lives.

The BBC quite rightly comes in for much stick as the flag bearer for these liberals and on page 125 I was interested to learn that George Orwell based the Ministry of Truth, in his book Nineteen Eighty-four, from his time at the BBC.

In 1948 George Orwell wrote Nineteen Eighty-four as a forewarning of the dangers of totalitarianism and it is not commonly reported just how totalitarian liberals are today in forcing through their 'agenda' which so often achieves the complete opposite of what they want. For example they profess to want to help the poor but their liberal policies actually damage them.

When the history books are written the BBC will justifiably come in for a great deal of criticism for promoting a very one sided liberal view of the world and showing little to no balance for any alternative view points.

I cannot recommend the book too highly and it really is a must read if you want to make sense of world in which we live and why, for our future well being, we have to expose and defeat social liberalism which, far from being the answer to all things, is actually the root of all our ills.
This is BBC bias, pure and simple, and what is really frustrating is that without a mass boycott of the licence fee there is precious little you and I can do about it as the BBC is a law unto itself as it has been for many years now.

My observations about the pro BBC bias over its reporting of the EU is well supported by this article from the Express.

I hope Tony Blackburn takes the BBC to an Industrial Tribunal, for unfair dismissal, and wins his case and is duly compensated appropriately.

As I keep saying the BBC, like many large organisations, is completely beyond reforming itself and there is no will in the government to take the action necessary to radically cut the BBC down in size.

The sure fired way to sort out the BBC is to stop the licence the fee and let it compete in its own right. This is what I advocate as the ONLY way to reform the BBC.

However having said that I would be happy to see a full and detailed review of other options which might allow partial government funding on the basis of a continued 'Public Service' broadcasting remit.

During the piece they only interviewed or more correctly played a recording of one person.

He was an MP and was of course for remaining in - there was NO balance to this at all.Niall Warryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13815435878278635965noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7360340594632717604.post-87846081137525730342016-02-21T19:29:00.003+00:002016-02-21T19:36:37.282+00:00# 391 - war - BBC bias in favour of the EU.The BBC has a history of being in favour of the EU from whom they have millions of pounds in soft loans.

The Sun makes a good point recently that to show fairness, during the forthcoming campaign, the BBC should monitor their output on the EU to ensure balance.

The BBC has refused to do this which is of course very convenient for them and I give you one very simple example from today's broadcasts to show how their reporting will almost certainly be bias in favour of the EU.

On the Andrew Marr show, BBC 1 9-10am, Cameron easily got double the time of Farage to make his case. Later on the 11 o'clock news on Radio 2 during the first slot on the EU the only person interviewed was Cameron.

Finally EVERY time the BBC mentions the Prime Minster and his views in a broadcast without equal airtime to the Leavers to challenge his views then they ARE showing bias in favour of the EU.

Now the obvious question to me was that most of the countries above us are not dominated by the luvie brigade and have traditional families, discipline and generally provide an environment where children feel more secure.

I've just started a great book called 'The liberal delusion' by John March which sets out to expose the disastrous consequences of our liberal attitude to children. This is one in which no child must fail or be disciplined and all children are considered little angels and if and when they do wrong it is not their fault but 'societies'.

That is why we are thirteenth but you would never get the luvie BBC to admit that the social liberal attitudes they promote are a large part of the problem.
During the 'vox pop' section they interviewed a male 'Leaver' (50+) in a pub sat next to a woman who rather nervously said he would take up arms and die for this country and he didn't want us importing criminals.

Next in another location, in the interest of balance of course, they interviewed two attractive reasonable ladies (35ish?) who said they would prefer to stay in the EU.

This is the sort of blatant bias the BBC plays day in day out. The Culture, Media and Sport Committee's report on the BBC Charter review says the BBC is an "extraordinary national and global institution" with a "vast amount to contribute as an international standard of excellence in public service broadcasting", but that in a fast-moving world it needs a radical overhaul of its governance arrangements.

Its Director General is "effectively accountable to no one" but also lacks the support for difficult editorial decisions or to drive change through the organisation.

BBC's accountability and transparency

Improving the BBC’s accountability and transparency will help it to continue to innovate and create superb programming, while addressing a culture that is still perceived by many as arrogant and introspective.
This was most recently illustrated by the "lobbying letter" episode: the Committee says it was completely unacceptable for the BBC to be secretly using stars to campaign "independently" on its behalf, and particularly disappointing that BBC executives refused either to investigate or disavow the episode and instead defended the BBC's actions.

Committee findings and recommendations

The BBC Trust has lost confidence and credibility and should be abolished. However, the problem that the Trust was intended to solve remains

The BBC’s Board needs to be reformed as a unitary board and strengthened, with the addition of an independent Chair

It awaits the results of the Clementi review, but in its judgement wider accountability should be the task of a separate section of Ofcom

A new complaints procedure would see all complaints handled initially by the BBC itself, with both industry and editorial issues subsequently escalated to Ofcom

The redefined BBC Board should re-examine the business case for BBC Worldwide and, if it decides to retain the wholly-owned subsidiary model, it should be subjected to greater transparency and accountability and kept under kept under review by Ofcom

There remain concerns about the BBC Studios proposals on four fronts: State Aid rules, transparency and accountability over pay, the relationship between BBC Studios and BBC Commissioners, and the BBC’s regional presence

The lack of transparency around salaries, and concerns over levels of pay for executives and talent alike, must be addressed
